The CFP marks identify those individuals that have met rigorous experience and ethical requirements of the CFP Board, have successfully completed financial planning course work and have passed the CFP Certification Examination covering the following areas: General Financial Planning Principles, Professional Conduct, and Regulation, Risk Management, Insurance & Employee Benefits Planning, Investment Planning, Tax Planning, Retirement Savings, and Income Planning, and Estate Planning.
CFP Board imposes regulatory and ethical requirements for those individuals who hold the CFP certification marks. CFP professionals are subject to the CFP Board’s Standards of Professional Conduct, which include the Code of Ethics, Rules of Conduct, Practice Standards, Disciplinary Rules, and Candidate Fitness Standards. CFP Professionals providing financial planning or the material elements of the financial planning process to a client owe the client a duty of care of a fiduciary. As a fiduciary, the CFP Professional must always act in the client’s best interest and put the clients’ interests ahead of the professional’s own interests.
